No Thanks .. me no need green card ..
People who cross your path either make you or break you. You cant take whats bad from an experienced and dwell on it or take the positive out of that negative in making you a much stronger person. Its always a case of easier said than done - but if think if anyone sets their mind to it - that can be done. I am just writing this probably because i am a tad bumbed out at the perceptions of complete strangers who look at Asians as second class citizens with an ulterior motive. I have to admit there are probably some of them that way but stereotyping Asians would be like stereotyping all Americans to be in favor of Bush and the Iraq war ( couldnt think of a better comparison at this time)..
I am writing this not too offend or ruffle any feathers - just venting out my frustrations and awe at how narrow minded and intolerant some people can be and aside from the fact i am stuck at home with a knee problem and well my thought process is on overload .. anyways .. A few nights ago out of sheer bordem and my very curious state of mind i entered a chat room - see how it is these days. So while i was just lurking i think some human being checked my profile and this was what he said in the room and i quote him ...
" ignores for her lame attempt to get a green card... "
I was minding my own damn business and thats what i got for it . I could possibly have included his yahoo id but i think ill play nice .. anyways .. I was pissed but couldnt help laughing at his ignorance. My ultimate respond to him was to get over himself ... that some of us are actually happy where we are and seriously we dont need a man to pave our way to a better life. I wonder if he realizes that the worlds moving and everyone else is getting green cards for other countries too and not just the USA ..
It seems that the fact that you're Asian it means you want an American Green Card so let me ask something - what about the thousands of non Asian who wants them - the Europeans, the Aussies - so is that a bad thing too - would they have gotten the same respond as an Asian?- Probably not. People i welcome you to the world of double standards. Incidentally this wouldnt be a first of an ignorant human who thinks he is way above the rest - i have heard stories of insults and slurs - i wonder - lack of education or just plain ignorant ... bad experience maybe who kows ....it infuriates me yet at the same time amuses me ..
If i was to reverse this whole scenario - an American guy coming to an Asian chatroom does this mean they are looking for a Green card for the many Asian countries or for whatever reason? I could easily be that way - i can be narrow minded too but i dont think id stoop to his level of ignorance. Its a global village and i just wish peoples perceptions would change - give others the benefit of the doubt - stereotyping should be a thing of the past - people are moving around all over the world technology's making it possible ... Searching for new experiences, exposures but whatever it is there is no place like home ultimately ...
I mentioned this experience to a couple of my friends and i told them and i quote
"we better stop being friends - and end this .. .. and they would ask why .. i said well you know people might think im just being your friend just so i can get a green card .." -
i was obviously being a wise ass :P and well their respond was you are being silly and a then comes that infamous raised eyebrows .. well anyways ..
I could probably go on and go citing examples of every country in the world who have 'green card issues' meaning befriending / getting into relationships souly for a ticket out of the country and ultimately a better life ... but i am just going to make a point with this one seeing this was a first hand experience. I am just saying - things are not as bad as they seem .. And if anything there have been people who earned these themselves without the need to get to know a person of that particular country ... so there .....
Anyways - i was mad at his accusation but you know what its not going to break me .. If anything it teaches that one apple doesnt spoil the whole basket - he was one of the rare few and his perceptions i would think doesnt reflect the many other Americans i have befriended .......
Just speaking my mind .. isnt it a world of free speech?
