of moms & weddings ..

Its wedding card writing & delivering for my cousin Ma. Her wedding is next month and she is busy writing guests names on the cards with her parents and her sisters. The invitation stands at 1500 with 400 one the guests from the grooms side. It’s a combined event which is really cost effective and time saving. I mean lets face it the wedding is about the bride and groom for the most part so two days would be perfect – a day for the solemnization and another the reception

Over here the way the cards are being distributed is a little different and so is the guest list trust me when I say that. The bride and grooms side decided to combine the celebrations which is always a good thing. The guest list is up too about 2000 or so. 1500 from the bride’s side and 500 from the grooms and this includes family, family of family, relatives, friends and what nots. To really see how they can deal with such an extensive guest list one has to be around to witness it & for those who have never experienced a wedding from this part of the world it’s a force to be reckon with …;)) … Anyways the wedding cards being distributed are either done by hand or my post. It’s customary to send invitation cards by hands to immediate family and as for the elderly it’s important that the parents or aunts go personally and send the cards. As much as times have changed certain things like that haven’t. Seeing were a close knit community its crucial that the elderly are given precedence and this includes aunties, grand aunties and all the grand ole I think everyone knows where I am going with this. Another alternative for such an intensive guest list is sending the cards in bulk to a relatives house and they will help send out the invites – it probably sounds complicated but that’s who it is for us – I think when you’ve spent your whole life around it its not a big deal. I will update more about days leading to her big day in a later blog …

My moms haven’t been in town these past three weeks and I realized how much I miss her. She has been at my grandmas these past weeks seeing that my little cousin have been sick lately. Sometimes I would go to her room just to get a smell of her. I would open her closet and I will all misty eyed. I think the appreciated and love for ones mother gets better with time I mean it isn’t perfect but we know the bond is and I think that’s typical of any mother daughter relationship. I am a very sentimental person and equally sensitive. I carry a little hanky that belongs to my mom with me all the time which has her scent on it when I miss her I take it out …. call me sappy but that’s just the way I am ..

Speaking of mothers this Mother’s Day would be Lun Lun the giant panda’s first mothers’ day as a mommy. I just think its so sweet how Lun Lun & Mei Lan show their love for each other – I am not kidding when I say it reminds me of my mom & I. sometimes I would tease her and nudge her lol yeah some of us have a funny of way of showing affection *grin* ….

So another Sunday in May we celebrate mothers’ day. I am all for it but I think everyday should be spent celebrating and appreciating our mothers. As commercialized as it is it’s the small things and gestures that we do for mom which makes the day all the more special. You can spend a bunch on gifts and a dinner at a fancy restaurant but nothing beats the simple things like a hug, words of appreciation and letting them know how much we love them because from experience I know it’s not something I do everyday. My point is its great that mothers are celebrated in a special kind of way and given a special day to be remembered a lot like Christmas Eid and all the major holidays because mothers should truly be revered and celebrated because they hold the most important jobs in the world ….. To all moms I salute you..
