Reading for Pleasure

Books got to love them.. I think my love affair with books started a long time ago as with everyone else I think. First there was the library – I remember loaning out 4 books at a time when I was in primary school and attending story telling sessions they had at the libraries. I enjoyed the school library too though not as much as the public libraries. Before the age of technology came into play our library cards was all manually done stamped and the card was a hard cardboard unlike today where it’s a laminated library card and our identification cards can also be used as library cards. How far have we gone…

Apart from the libraries I enjoy browsing for hours at bookstores my favorite is Borders – its huge and its huge need I say more.. I don’t mind books Kinokuniya but I find it a little cramped compared to Borders and an added bonus at Borders is that they sell journals too anyways.. what can I say I love books. I remembered when I used to splurged my paycheck on books and I build up quiet a collection sadly however many of the books I loaned out to friends and some relatives never get returned – maybe I should have made a list back then on who loaned and what not but I guess you trust friends and relatives will return what they borrowed from you but alas …

The kind of books I read are of a varied variety and I think that still stuck till today. I like both non fiction and fiction, contemporaries drama and etc etc .. Books take you places, opens your eyes your mind to people experiences and places you never think existed. You are made to experience things you would otherwise wont and then there are books that inspire you motivate you give you hope .. Books and writers what would we do without them.. and since were on the subject of new experiences here is a little something from Daily Om about the beauty of reading and what it brings for us .. and on that not here is a little question – what is it about a book that makes you read it? What kind of books? Comments anyone?

Reading is an amazing thing.. Personally I feel no one should be deprived of this. Books to me is like when you cant go to the world let the world come to you. And everyone from all over the world regardless of status, race or gender should be given that that chance

A Whole New World

Reading For Pleasure

Every book has the potential to touch the human soul deeply, arousing patterns of thought that might otherwise have lain dormant. The pleasure we derive from the written word is unique in that we must labor for it. Other forms of art provide us with stimulus and ask nothing more than our emotional response. Reading is an active pastime that requires an investment of emotion as well as our concentration and imagination. The words we read are merely a starting point for a process that takes place largely within our minds and hearts. There are few activities as comforting, relaxing, and healthy as perusing the pages of a good piece of fiction or nonfiction. Curling up with a book and a cup of tea is one of the simplest ways we can remove ourselves from the confines of reality in order to immerse ourselves in the drama and intrigue of the unfamiliar. The pleasure of transcending reality is only one aspect of the reading experience, however. Each time we read for enjoyment, whether we prefer the fantastic nature of fiction, the empathy awakened within us by memoir, or the instructive passion of nonfiction, we create entire landscapes in our mind's eye. The books we choose provide us with the inspiration we need to accomplish such a feat, but it is our own creative reserves that empower us to use our imaginations for this unique and beautiful purpose. The tales you lose yourself in can lead you on paths of discovery that take you out of your own life and help you see that existence can unfold in an infinite number of ways. You can learn so much from the characters and mentors who guide you from page to page. Your emotions are awakened each time you read, allowing you to become vessels of the passion that pours forth from line after line of print. Ultimately, the books you absorb-those that touch you deeply-will become a part of who you are, providing you with a rich and thrilling world within that you can revisit anytime you wish by simply closing your eyes. If you haven't read a book for pleasure lately, try and allow yourself the time-you deserve it.
