customer service & customers .....

Customer service is something I take very seriously – be it as a customer or the customer service representative. I think even in areas of teaching – you have to some sort of customer service especially in dealing with parents and trust me when I say some parents can be very difficult. I would say its ok seeing that they want what is best for their kids though there should be some sort of limit anyways that’s not what I am trying to get at here. Today my rant if you can call it is about customer service – one I witnessed and one I read..

I was having lunch at the Long John Silver’s at Simei and there was a family of four next to my table. They just finished their meal and had left over drinks – so a server past them and instead of saying excuse me the mom said ‘psss’ ‘pssss’ to the server and asking her to bring her lids for her drinks …What is wrong with this picture? Isn’t it obvious – couldn’t she just say excuse me or get off her feet and go to the counter and ask for the lids? Mind you it’s a self service restaurant. It is probably petty to some but when you were in the service industry it would probably strike a nerve. I mean she had kids who could just go to the counter and ask for it right. anyways I just happened to look at her and I think she felt embarrassed so in the end she went up to the counter to get it … no I was glaring just looking – if my look sent signal nothing I can do about it … *grin* ….

In areas of customer service – its not only the customers who can be a pain even the sales person can be a pain too. Don’t you just hate it when you enter a store and after the intial welcome they start following you around arghhhhh.. I had one such experience when I was in Johore. I wont name the shop though. It seems like the moment we got to the counter where we wanted to get our stuff, the sales girl kept following us all the way .. My cousin and I obviously got irritated and ask if why she was following us she just smiled .. grrrrrrrr then when we went down she followed us too – I mean for the love of God what did she think we were going to do ? Steal lol .. its annoying we gave our two cents in a nice way so in the end she got the message and left us alone .. what an experience huh .. anyways

I read an article in the Sunday New Paper about persistent sales people who were eager to sell their products only not to respect the buyer. I scanned out the article here for your reading pleasure
