cookies & cuties

A beautiful Saturday morning, beautiful weather great company once again both physically & in spirit …. I was awaken by mom saying my niece and nephew were already here and it was only 730am .. There goes my chance of sleeping in I though but it was well worth it seeing I have two adorable little kiddies in my home. My nephew was asleep by the time I got out of bed and brushed my teeth and my niece a little dazed – poor baby ill bet she didn’t like the idea of having to wake that early in the am either haha anyways, there were here for a short visit and breakfast.

They were up that early cause they were sending their grandma off. After which the family dropped by for breakfast seeing how close the airport is to my place. It was nice having them here though it was pretty early. Anyways, while the others talked and baby ali slept, safa & her ati fah did some cookie frosting – her first time to do it and she was pretty excited about it. She is a curious one when it comes to cooking and enjoys helping my mom out when my moms making cakes over at grandmas. She is a little baker in the making I think who knows.

Anyways equipped with my cam I snapped pictures of her which is on the slide at the end of this entry. I’m thinking its never too early to snap pictures – yes I love taking pictures what can I say of family people and things around me *grin*. My niece was pretty excited about the whole frosting activity – I just enjoyed watching her put her heart and soul into it. Made me such a proud aunt. She frosted about 10 cookies all on her own and she was so proud of her achievement and I am too. My niece and her little masterpiece. I did one fowl up though, I used the same brush when mixing certain colors and she was told by her mom not too mix colors using the same brush ahaha I guess I am the one who will be teaching her the wrong thing but but I rectified the problem … I usually have a cup of water to wash the brushes but being it was early I forgot – hey I have to justify myself sometimes ….. anyways ..

She loved her cookies and kept saying ati fah can I eat the cookies can I eat the cookies she didn’t her own though she picked out the wedding cake cookie from the platter I frosted last night – smart little one isn’t she lol .

And so we had breakfast after, after about 2 hours they left to go home to Jb. Wished they had stayed longer but I guess they are trying to beat the traffic going into Johore. Saturday mornings are not the best time to go into Johore seeing everyone is going up there to shop and enjoy the weekend and seeing that it’s the school holidays here now I guess it just gets worst. But as short as the visit was I had fun – playing with my little nephew who can now roll and move rather quickly and watch my niece have a go at her first frosting session.

Here is a slideshow of the pics of the little artist at work and a picture of my nephew whose just woken up and looking a little daze .. If the slideshow doesn’t work the link for it is here

Other than have a little smile as you watch the antics of the little cuties..

Dear John , be a Goddess ...

Nothing beats starting the day out with a nice cup of coffee, pleasant company and books – books reviews that it. Checking through my email I received Borders bookstore mailer with coupons and book reviews which I always love. I found two books that caught my eye and am seriously contemplating on buying them. But the thing is I still have my Love in Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez to read and I am half way through reading The Witch of Portobello by Paulo Coelho. These books are on my top 5 reads I hope to read by the end of the year so I do believe I am half way there. The other two books , Pay it Forward & Infidel I cant seem to get them here. and I have trimmed down my goals to read the top 5 books – but you never know , I rambled on too much off track .. :D

Anyways back to the 2 new books I am keen on purchasing. One of them is from Nicholas Sparks writer of The Notebook and my ever favorite tear jerker Message in a bottle which made me cry my eyes out heehee what can I say the movie & the book in some ways hit home. His new book sort of hits home too (after reading the synopsis that is) so I am keen on actually reading it – I think a little story book romance (literally) doesn’t hurt maybe it would actually do wonders for the soul. The title of this is simply ‘Dear John’

An angry rebel, John dropped out of school and enlisted in the Army, not knowing what else to do with his life - until he meets the girl of his dreams, Savannah. Their mutual attraction quickly grows into the kind of love that leaves Savannah waiting for John to finish his tour of duty, and John wanting to settle down with the woman who has captured his heart. But 9/11 changes everything. John feels it is his duty to re-enlist. And sadly, the long separation finds Savannah falling in love with someone else. "Dear John," the letter reads... and with those two words, a heart was broken and two lives were changed forever. Returning home, John must come to grips with the fact that Savannah, now married, is still his true love - and face the hardest decision of his life.

Another book that caught my eye is Goddess - be the woman you want to be. I think what struck me about this book was its cover then again you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover but after reading the synopsis I think it would be worth it seeing its all about empowering women. Seeing it will 2008 in a few weeks the book would be perfect to start the year with – heh a new and improved groovy island girl .. ;)) .. Maybe ill just go and check this book and see if its really what the synopsis says it is ..

And so its decision making time .. if I take that step and head out to Borders I know I am going to end up buying more than those two books and I still have another book waiting to be read .. what can I say im a book junkie …. Hmmm what to do what to do ?

Make Your Dreams Happen

"You've got to be willing to take risks. Dream big, set big goals,
and then work hard to make your dreams happen."
~ Jean Driscoll

Competitive paralympian athlete Jean Driscoll (1966-) was born in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin with spina bifida, a serious defect that caused
an open spine and cleft palate that left the nerves in her lower
body unconnected.

"I was humbled a lot as a child. I was teased. Left out. I resented
people who were so stuck on themselves," she admitted.

Although wheelchair bound, by age 13 the inspirational Driscoll was
biking over 12 miles a day. "Tell me I can't do that and I'm going
to do it," she said of her challenges. "I wanted to prove I was like
the other kids and could do the things other kids could do."

In 1988, Driscoll won four medals in the first Paralympic Games in
Seoul, South Korea. With determination, she has won the
Boston
Marathon
wheelchair race eight times. In 1999, Sports Illustrated
named her one of the top 100 athletes of the 20th century.

"I have a strong faith. I feel I've been blessed immensely. My
victories are not only mine. It's such a privilege to be where I
am," she said.

Called the best wheelchair marathon racer in the world, Driscoll won
Olympic silver medals in 1992 and 1996. With vision and drive, she
has taken her sport to a new level. "People thought athletes with
disabilities were courageous and inspirational, " she said. "They
never give them credit for simply being competitive. "

~~Dream big and set big goals.
